Services Available at the Town Clerk's office:
General assistance with issues concerning Town government: Matters involving action of the Selectboard. Matters involving the buildings and highways of the Town.
Dog or wolf-hybrid licenses: State Law requires this license by April 1st each year. A valid rabies certificate is required as well as a spayed/neutered certificate (if applicable). Fees are $10.00 for altered pets and $18.00 for non-altered pets.
Marriage or Civil Marriage licenses: At least one party must be a resident of the Town or both parties must be from out of State with the ceremony to be performed in Addison County. Blood tests are not required. License fee is $45.00 plus $10.00 if you would like a certified copy. There is no waiting period to use the license.
Copies of Vital Records: Photocopies or certified copies of birth, death, and marriage records on file are available. Photocopies are $.25 each and $10.00 each for certified copies. Genealogy searches are welcome and will be performed by the researcher.
Motor Vehicle Registration Renewals: You can renew registrations for cars, trucks, boats, trailers, etc. Bring your renewal notice and a check written to the Department of Motor Vehicles for the amount of your renewal. There is a $3. fee payable to the Clerk for this service.
Green Mountain Passports: Green Mountain Passports are available to residents 62 or over or to those who have been declared disabled by the Vermont Veterans Administration. The $2. lifetime passport is valid immediately; holders are eligible for free admission to state parks and museums as well as reduced prices by private businesses.
Property Tax Payments: Tax bills are mailed out once a year usually in July. Taxpayers may pay the bill in full or in two installments; November 1st and May 1st. Interest charges are assessed for late payment and an additional 8% penalty fee will be added on all unpaid taxes after May 1st.
Voter Checklist Application: You must be a resident of the Town and at least 18 years of age to become a registered voter. Applications are available at any Town/City Clerks office.
Land Records: Deeds, mortgages, liens, etc. are on file in the Town Clerk’s office. Copies may be obtained at $1.00 per page. There is a $10.00 filing fee per page to record documents in the land records.
Selectboard: There are three (3) members that comprise the Selectboard. They are elected for three (3) year staggered terms. If you have any questions relative to budget & expenses, taxes, and overall town operation, you should speak with the Selectboard. Selectboard meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the Panton Town offices unless otherwise posted. Appointments to meet with the Selectboard should be made with the Town Clerk prior to the meeting. Minutes are available at the Town Clerk's office, and on this web site. Zoning Administrator: The Zoning Administrator works with the Planning Commission and Development Review Board (DRB), and is responsible for assisting in the town planning and the land development oversight. The Zoning Administrator is also responsible for enforcement of zoning regulations. Contact the Zoning Administrator for applications for zoning permits, variances, conditional uses, site plans and subdivision proposals. The Planning Commission/DRB meets on the 1st Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm in the town offices. The Zoning Administrator can be contacted as follows;

Official Public Notices: Posting of Official Panton Public Notices are at 3 Panton Locations (outside the Town Clerk's office, at the Town Garage, and the outside bulletin board on West street) plus the Addison Independent.
Justice of the Peace: Justices of the Peace have the power to perform marriages and civil unions but are not required to do so in any particular instance. However, the Justice may not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, age or disability. They are elected at a general election and must be legal voters of the town. The five Justices serving Panton are:

Highway Department: Located at 2167 Panton Road, the Highway Department consists of one full time employee and one seasonal employee. For questions concerning any highway in Panton, contact one of the Selectboard members or the Town Clerk. The Road Foreman and contact info is as follows;

Fire Warden: Issues permits in accordance with State Law 10VSA, Section 2645, which allows for the burning of approved materials such as untreated wood, brush and hay. No Permits are required when there is snow cover on the ground;
