Dear Panton Property Owner,

The Panton Listers and Vermont Municipal Assessor thank you, the property owners, for your patience and assistance helping us to complete this town wide reappraisal process.

The new values are a result of (1) exterior inspections of all properties in Panton, (2) interior inspections when the owners graciously let the assessor into the buildings, (3) a computer model supplied by the State, (4) information in the Town records, (5) real estate listings, and (6) recent sales of Panton area properties. The computer model was recalibrated to reflect the current market values of Panton sales.

On the State site, http://www.sec.state.vt.us/municipal/tax_appeal_handbook_2007.pdf, has A Handbook on Property Tax Assessment Appeals, which has a lot of information.

The Selectboard and the State of Vermont will set the municipal and education tax rates after the Grievance is complete. This will most likely be sometime in July.

There are copies of the current and previous assessments of all properties available on the Town website, see the link below, and in the Town Office. Also, available in the office are recent sales and listings of properties.

There will be an Informational Open House at the Town Office on Saturday, May 19th 9:00 to noon and Tuesday, May 22nd 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. This will be an opportunity for you to talk with the Listers and Assessor before Grievance.

Grievance Hearings will start on Monday, June 18th. Call the 475-2333 for an optional 15 minute appointment.

ALL GRIEVANCES MUST BE WRITTEN AND RECEIVED BY THE END OF THE HEARINGS.

Sincerely,

Joan Burt Cheryl McEwan Mary Jane Potter
