For the past 40 years, Homeward Bound has worked to foster the humane treatment of animals in our community. We provide temporary shelter for more than 700 lost, abandoned, abused or surrendered animals each year. As the only animal shelter in our county, our programs and services meet a wide array of critical animal welfare needs and we provide them without any county, state or federal funding. In addition to placing animals with new families, we educate the community about issues important to the welfare of animals, provide assistance to low-income pet owners, and assist law enforcement with animal cruelty and neglect investigations.

Provides support and education to families and assure that our community is one in which all young children get off to the right start, with the opportunity to grow up health, happy, and productive. The Center provides parenting education classes and workshops (on site and in neighboring communities), community playgroups, home visits, pregnancy prevention programs, job training, academic classes, transportation, and childcare.

ACTR was established in 1992 to create a network of public transportation alternatives that connect the people and places in Addison County. Our goal is to provide services that are safe, reliable, accessible and affordable for everyone.
The ACTR Shuttle Bus System is made up of six different bus routes including connections to Rutland and Burlington. Our Dial-a-Ride (demand response) System takes commuters, elders and persons with disabilities, Medicaid-eligible residents and many other vulnerable populations to work, doctors' appointments, grocery stores and meal sites.

The Bixby Memorial Library is a cultural resource, a historic gem and a hub of activity and exploration for all ages and individuals in the area towns. Bixby provides print and audio books, downloadable e-books and online classes as well as public access computers, WIFI 24/7 and active year round programming for children and adults. Bixby also offers meeting space for public use. Hours are Tuesday-Thursday: 10 am-7 pm and Friday-Saturday: 10 am-3 pm.

Project Independence is an adult day program for elders providing safe, medically oriented daytime care that includes social activities, specialized transportation to and from home, hot meals, individualized nursing care, personal care, educational programs and entertainment, respite for family caregivers. In addition to daytime care services, our staff also provides care giving education and emotional support to family members whose elderly relative attends our center. Our monthly Caregiver Support Group is open to all caregivers and takes place on the third Friday of each month.

Offers free programs and services in three focal areas. Primary commitment is to provide trained hospice volunteers to support people with terminal illnesses and their families. Hospice volunteers offer practical and emotional support tailored to the individual needs of each patient and family. Volunteers come to the patient, be they in homes, nursing homes, community care homes and the hospital. HVS also offers free bereavement support to all residents of Addison County in the form of one-on-one counseling and bereavement support groups. HVS serves as a resource and leader in providing education and support -- at local schools, businesses and community-sponsored events -- throughout Addison County around issues of end-of-life care, death and bereavement.
