EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
The Town of Panton has plans in place to manage community-wide emergencies, such as hurricanes or flooding. Bob Groff is the Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC) and works with local, state, and federal agencies to create and update emergency plans and ensure Panton has access to necessary resources if an emergency occurs.
Local Emergency Management Plan (LEMP)
Each year, the EMC proctors the Town through the annual update to the Local Emergency Management Plan (LEMP). The LEMP establishes lines of responsibility during a disaster as well as high risk populations, hazard sites, procedures, and resources.

ocal Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP)
Hazard mitigation planning enables local governments to better protect lives, property, and natural systems. The purpose of mitigation planning is to identify policies and actions that can be implemented over the long term to reduce risk and future losses. Local Hazard Mitigation Plans (LHMPs) form the foundation for a community's long-term strategy to reduce disaster losses and break the cycle of disaster damage, reconstruction, and repeated damage.
In 2022, Bob Groff secured a Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant to update Panton's LHMP. Working with the Addison County Regional Planning Commission, a kick off meeting was held on January 19, 2023. Future meetings will be held at Panton Town Hall starting at 6:00 p.m. on the following days:

- A FEMA-approved LHMP is required for local governments that wish to receive federal funds from the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) and Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program.
- The LHMP is also one of the mitigation actions needed to qualify for additional post-disaster funding through the Emergency Relief and Assistance Fund (ERAF).
